So I’m doing a little research…

My fiance’s grandma is on this diet she read about in a magazine. It’s called “The Rice Diet.” When I heard that name I just cringed inside. I said “You can’t live on rice alone!” …but actually I was wrong about the diet. It’s not an all-rice diet.

In the 1930’s a man by the name of Dr. Walter Kempner realized that people that lived in cultures that ate rice as their primary source of food were less likely to be overweight, have high blood pressure, high cholestorol, and all the other nasties that go along with obesity. He developed what is now known as “The RIce Diet” and shared it with the world. People come from all over the U.S. to spend a few weeks at “The Rice House” in North Carolina.

Their website has success stories, pictures included, of people who have lost hundreds of pounds.

You don’t HAVE to go to the residential clinic to be on the program, though. There is a book, and you can do this from home.

It’s not easy. Some call it “The Marine Corps of the Diet World.” Your calorie intake is restricted, and it’s even suggested that you “go vegetarian.” But…it’s the total opposite of Atkins. You can have bread, pasta, and all those ‘other’ carbs that Atkins takes away.

Sounds like a dream diet to me.

…so that’s what I’m gonna do. I just have a few details to work out, trying to decide if I’m gonna beg my fiance to do this with me…or if I’m gonna try and go it alone. It will be tough to behave on this diet with so many other “yummy” foods in the house that I’m NOT supposed to eat. But I’m TOUGH and I WANT to do this!

Has anyone else ever tried The Rice Diet? Any success stories? Horror stories? Let me know.

It’s almost FRIDAY!
